Dragon Awards nominees announced

DragonCon, the world’s largest science fiction and fantasy convention, is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with the first annual Dragon Awards.

From the Dragon Awards home page:

In a world of the ordinary, the Dragon is most astonishing. Its heart burns with determination and desire as it soars from page to canvas to screen. The Dragon’s inner fire elevates it above the mundane, and once released, inspires respect and awe from all who witness its greatness.

Like the Dragon, our recipients are extraordinary and unique. Fueled by the passion for their art, they have spread their wings and soared above us all. Their inner fire, the burning in their hearts and souls, cannot be restrained. Once set free, their work, their fire, has influenced and inspired countless others, burned into our hearts and minds forever.

Unlike their older counterparts, Nebula and the Hugos, these awards are truly fan-driven, with nominees selected neither by a professional committee (Nebula) nor by those willing to pay hefty membership fees (Hugos). Signing up and voting is free and easy, and authors are encouraged to mobilize their fans to show support.

It is no surprise, then, to see so many excellent, deserving authors on the nomination roster. They range from best-sellers to those whose financial success has not yet caught up to the quality of their work; from industry veterans to first-timers; from authors represented by the biggest publishing houses to the ones who ventured into the world of writing all on their own. No filters, no gatekeepers, no pre-conceived notions of who is or is not deserving. The nominees, and the winners, are decided by those who truly matter: the fans.

It is, therefore, with great pleasure that we at CLFA offer congratulations and best of luck to the following members and allies:

Larry Correia Son of the Black Sword (Saga of the Forgotten Warrior Book 1)

Dave Freer Changeling’s Island

Declan Finn Honor at Stake (Love at First Bite Book 1)

Brian Niemeier Souldancer (Soul Cycle Book 2)

Nick Cole CTRL ALT Revolt!

Mark H. Wandrey A Time To Die

Marina Fontaine Chasing Freedom

John C. Wright Somewhither: A Tale of the Unwithering Realm

Gibson Michaels Wrath of an Angry God: A Military Space Opera (The Sentience Trilogy Book 3)

The full list of nominees is here. Once you register for voting, you will receive a private ballot e-mailed to you. Don’t worry if you don’t get a response right away: ballots are sent out in batches every couple of days. Voting closes September 1st and the winners will be announced at DragonCon in Atlanta in the first week of September.

May the best books win, and happy reading to all!
